In addition to the above, Viagra® has also shown interactions with many other drugs.
Other drugs are known to negatively interact with Sildenafil?
It is adviced not to take Sildenafil if you are on a nitrate drug which is used to treat angina or other medications for treating heart problems. These nitrates include:
- nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitrolingual, Nitro-Dur, Nitro-Bid, Minitran, Deponit, Transderm-Nitro),
isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate)
- isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket)
- recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers")
Consult your doctor before you use Sildenafil, if you are on any of the following medication:
- bosentan (Tracleer)
- cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB)
- an antibiotic such as erythromycin (E-Mycin, Eryc, Ery-Tab) or clarithromycin (Biaxin)
- doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress), Terazosin (Hytrin)
- HIV medicines such as amprenavir (Agenerase), tipranavir (Aptivus), darunavir (Prezista), efavirenz (Sustiva), nevirapine (Viramune), indinavir (Crixivan), saquinavir (Invirase, Fortovase), lopinavir/ ritonavir (Kaletra), fosamprenavir (Lexiva), ritonavir (Norvir), atazanavir (Reyataz), or nelfinavir (Viracept)
- an antifungal medication such as itraconazole (Sporanox) or ketoconazole (Nizoral)
- carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenobarbital (Luminal), or phenytoin (Dilantin)
- Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane) or rifabutin (Mycobutin).
If any of the above medicines are being taken, you might require appropriate dosage adjustments or special tests to be taken or you might just not be allowed to use Sildenafil at all.
However, this is not the end of the long list. There might be others that affect Sildenafil too. It is safest to let your doctor know all details of your medications, both prescribed and over-the-counter. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. New medication must not be started unless your doctor is notified of the same.

Cialis(tadalafil) is also a selective inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), and used in the treatment of ED.
